About Us

A family business with a heritage dating back over 65 years, Kennedy & Hunter was established in 1955 as a small grocery store in the historic town of Paisley and grew to become a well known family business with 4 shops including the flag ship Kennedy & Hunter licensed grocers on Causeyside Street.

The business was started by my parents Robert & Irene Hunter (mum was the Kennedy) who both worked for and met at the famous Dobbies Tobacco Company in Paisley. Mum left Dobbies to run the first two shops with help from family and then my dad joined to run and build the business while mum had the first of 4 children (I was the 3rd born and only son, known as “the special one”…or so I would like to think!).

The shops closed down as supermarkets expanded and the brand was mothballed until I decided to re create it within our existing Scottish manufacturing business Scotcrest, which was formed in 1972. At Scotcrest we design and hand make the majority of our own products using locally sourced materials where possible. We are now proud to produce the Kennedy & Hunter range that is sold exclusively on its own website.

Robert & Irene Hunter are sadly no longer with us, however, we know they would be proud of what we have achieved and that the Kennedy & Hunter brand, and all that it stands for, is back with a strong focus on high quality products and excellent customer service.
